LG Plasma TV broken

Sorted. The tunner in the TV was incompatible with the current freeview signal. Same for an old currys freeview box that was working last year. I was unable to find info on this issue. It seems the people behind the signal don't care and those with old stuff should just f-off.

The TV works fine with signal coming through scart and RGB sockets. So, the solution is a china set top box, with WIFI!!!!

The TV is rated at 550W. It eats 260W on average, 160W in less bright power saving mode, 3.3W in sleep.

Just need something that switches on and watch.

So not just something that switches on and watch. Switch Tv on with TV remote. Switch China set box on with China set top box remote, choose channel with China set top box remote. Adjust volume with TV remote. Change channel with China set to box remote. Yeah, hassle free.

How would you know how the china box works? I will get it and see. Possibly you are not used to advanced TVs. For this unit, after power on, it goes straight to the last selected input. Everything will be controlled by a power remote. In the worst case, power remote on, then china remote choose channel. When done, power remote off, go nap.

If you say so. You could have bought a on smart or even smart TV for the price of your China set top box.

a TV which doesn't actually receive TV.
It does now, with the china box. It's working better than planned. Power on and watch. Both TV and box can tolerate external power control and continue where they left off. Gained the ability to play from USB and record to USB. Didn't gain play from youtube because the supplied wifi dongle wasn't compatible with the box.

Was this for you or for a 'pensioner friend'? You can’t seem to make your mind up.

So, to recap, the 'pensioner friend' who only wants a non-smart TV, now has, in effect, a smart TV and they also have WiFi. What did they have before you got them this TV?

Having it doesn't mean you have to use it. It's a freeview TV for watching BBC1 eastenders, or something.
