Do not want to use these

I'm not a spark so don't know whether there are restrictions, but what about LED downlights in the ceiling?

Thanks Skoti,

... as long as at least IP44 rated it is ok .... I may well fit roof lighting. U have any LED ideas. Want no heat becasue of rockwool above ceiling plasterboard.

Anyone other ideas such as around mirror lighting or roof lighting ?

Thank you Skoti,

GU10 down spots could be fine.

I even have nice GU10 LED bulbs ready to use. These run very cold. Nothing remotely like scorching 50 watt halogen bulbs.

Indeed not but you still must follow the manufacturers instructions regarding the free air distance around the lamp unit and don't forget what the heat sink at the rear is for - unless you want adidas fingers

As for your lighting unit - it will all depend on the amount of money you are prepared to pay and the style you want.
You might consider replacing the mirror with one that has built in led lighting already such as these:

Or something that sits atop your current mirror.

There are others available with a simple google search.

Thank you Riveralt ...

Lots of ideas there ... there are some nice downlights. Yes I need to look to ambient space around any downlights.

Thanks ... :)

Unless it's purely for decorative reasons, the lights would be better at the side of, and at the same level as your face. The idea is that they illuminate your face which is reflected in the mirror. Overhead lights will leave your face in shadow.

For good reason the old stage make up mirrors had a row of light bulbs down either side.

Today, modern versions are available, many suitable for use in a bathroom

It is important that they are correctly installed and suitable for the appropriate electrical zone in which they are located.

That's a good point, but looking at the OP's original picture it looks like the sink would push anyone standing in front of the mirror back by ~2ft so downlights in the ceiling, 6-8" away from the wall (assuming that's compliant!) would have a similar effect without being as prominent as wall-mounted lights.
