The problem with PR is that extremist parties can end up holding the balance of power as it is harder for mainstream parties to get an overall majority.

that depends on the type of PR....done well, the result can be a strong coalition.

in the current system, the balance of power is swung on a few marginal seats

FPTP has a big disadvantage in that new parties are worthless -this country only has 2 options and we swing from one to the other. Its always seems so wasteful they way one party gets in and spends its time undoing what the last govt did. Rinse and repeat.

I am not sure money is a problem for most doctors or nurses.
I would need to turn over a huge amount of money to earn equivalent of a basic nurses wage.


At present no amount of money would compensate them for their job though, especially those dealing directly with Coronavirus patients.

When times are good it isn't important. When times are bad then it's not the right time. Not a left Vs right concept, more of a universal spin tactic. Same delaying tactics to avoid doing anything or admitting previous decisions were bad.

It doesn't really work like that. Forget brexit but Corbyn does have a valid point that can be justified. What happened. Blare was regarded as closet Tory by some He was accepted by many who do have influence as he was middle road. An extreme view is that politics is still under the shadow of Mrs T. more of an eclipse really than a shadow. She did a number of things that were needed and did lots of harm one way or another along with a lot of propaganda that is still generally accepted.

All in all various things make changes of direction difficult.

the hard left Labour supporters hate Blair and they refuse to acknowledge his govt did do quite a bit: poverty down, Minimum wage, Sure start, Family tax credits, better funded NHS, better funded education, The Good Friday agreement, Devolved Scotland and Wales, Civil Partnership Act. Im no fan of Blair but he was no Tory.

lots of Labour socialists have quit the Labour party since Keir Starmer became leader -its almost like they would prefer Tories to stay in power.

In many cases it was foresight. Labour opposed the paltry pay rises and the real terms cuts to the NHS, in part by pointing out there was very little spare capacity. Those people deserve credit for being right.

It's odd, at the time he was derrided as an idiot at the time but at worst he was just a point on the slippery slope.

I wasn't either. Just pointing out that any change in general direction in politics is difficult. Corbyn had no intention what so ever from changing from capitalism just pointing out that some aspects of what we currently have don't work as they should. Making changes of the sort he was indicating are against a lot of years of what we currently have so there will always be resistance as people have been told the same sort of thing for years. Mrs T was the one that started use of budget pointing out that people manage their household budget. Easy to put across. People get locked into that and can be completely unaware of what debt they are actually carrying on things like water or the tax that various things are raising that we are effectively paying.
