Well.... if you look at what I discovered when I removed the socket after chiselling the wall (socket was full of crud so could not get plug in - needed to get cooker going again).
What I found was that it is the ring, the one & only this house had.
It went into the single socket, the chock block at the back is extensions to the ring.
There were 5x 2.5mm cables into that socket!
orig ring in, orig ring out, extension ring out, extension ring back again, spur... 2 bits of choc blok in tape.

The spur went via 8" of 2.5mm T/E block inside the cupboard to the left.
Then from the C/B (unfused)via 2.5mm T/E to a socket on the right inside of the chimney above the cooker and also to the extractor fan (1.5mm unfused) as per the net pic.
The extension to the ring (2.5mm T/E) goes through a 40mm bit of pipe through the wall, it also has a 15mm gas pipe there too.
(Can I scream yet? )

A couple of wires in the choc block had blackened insulation
After I have done some chiselling etc for a new route I have mad the cables safe yet still working on a temporary basis (otherwise we have no power in the kitchen & no tea!)
Here is the temporary fix.
View media item 9603The cable plugged into the socket is from the cooker for the timer & ignition etc.
Here is the new cable route (I hope), I'll get some metal capping before I replaster over it.

It will eventually be RCD protected, is there any point in earthing the metal capping? I can drill & attach an earth wire via bolts etc - earthed upto above the ceiling so if the cable gets drilled through it' still earthed ?
