made some more enemies... oops...

When I went to school there was not a single disruptive kid in the whole school - and it was a very big school. The cane ruled.

There was a line in the sand that you knew you dare not cross without risking a hiding.

Perhaps you went to a girls school  The school's I went to in London late 60s-early 70s boys were caned every day. Boys were expelled less often but they were expelled. My ar5e was wacked many many times, did it do me any harm? let's just say I'd like to meet at least one of the masters again

My own opinion is that it will do no harm to your kids if there given a tap on the arse or the back of the legs, as long as you explain WHAT its for and WHY it was WRONG what they did

hurah.. some like minded people..

must be a testosterone thing..
the other site is mainly women, this one mainly men..

we had this discussion at work recently,
if your walking with your child and they step out into the road without looking,
do you just tell them off shout and scream?or smack them there and then so they learn there lesson not to do it again?or leave and explain the error of there ways when you get home?

over to you lot.

There is a very fine line between discipline and abuse.
As stated, a smack on the legs or backside with a simple explanantion why, is a reasonable response.
Emotive subject and one I need time to think about. (Bit busy at the mo but will be back).

Not necessarily!
I'm a woman and, rightly or wrongly, I smacked my son's backside or back of his legs when he had done something that I thought warranted it.

Although I've never asked my son, I'm pretty sure that if I did, he would say that it didn't do him any harm.

Canings at school god some years had caning leagues to see who got the most.
Probably had it every couple of weeks and dependin on who it was it was either the hand or the ar5e ,
Quite funny when the sadistic ones used to stand and look for a reaction , then say to them " is that it" really pished them off.
Done O level physics chemistry and biology and never done any homework so had my own seat in science detention every week.
Which really ****sed me off as hated having to stay after school cane was so much quicker .
Yes i smacked mine when required but as they got older the same affect could be achieved with a look or a voice tone.

Just turned 50, my eldest at 23, handed me her newborn and said,"here dad, your first grandchild", treat her like you did me.

Now, it's different, no, don't smack her, so i do it behind her back, when i baby sit, but i tell her.

I remember saying to my children, the reason i smack you, is because i love you, in the end, got older, agreed.

Yeah, someone said you've got a face like a smacked rse namsag.

Only ever got a clip round the ear off my dad twice. Once I was repairing a puncture in my bike and he had to step around me to get past. He'd been demolishing an old wooden fence and he stood on an upturned rusty nail in a piece of wood. Right through his foot and out the top!
WHACK! "Thats your fault for doing it there!" (he was there first so I suppose he was right, ;) )
Second time, I was sitting on the floor with my back against my mums armchair and she was twiddling her fingers through my hair, (which Iactually love having done, ), when I pushed her hand away and told her to "gerrof!"
WHACK!
"Don't you dare speak to your mother like that! Get to bed!" (I was about 15 at the time but did as I was told. )
My mother on the other hand was a 'long distance' striker!
Deadly at 20 paces with what ever came to hand, usually a slipper. It was off her foot and smacking against the side of your head before you realised what she was doing!
But to be honest, all 7 of us had total respect for them both till their deaths.

By the way, Dad was 5'-11¾" and Mum was 5'-0½" and we were more scared of her!

I think a certain generation after the '60's and into the '70's of parents had a culture of punishment, that they may have received from their parent's and passed the tradition down, the strap, the cane, and now, as that generation grows up, and they have kids, and it's not PC to punish a child, they turn to you and say, HA you can't touch me. And it's that arrogance that infuriates.

Yeah I got a slipper across my arse, for being late home, but my kids I took a military approach, but one of the kids wasn't interested..the one that complied, has a job, a girl, is setting up his life, the other that wouldn't listen, has just come out of jail, for theft, not proud, and always unreliable, and has broken his cerfew. While in jail, wrote to us, Oh I'm so sorry woe is me..same old. Said he'd meet up, never showed up, same old same old. None of his mates wrote him. Off the rails at an early stage = a slap, show them who is boss. When they say 'you can't touch me', then they are too arrogant.

....times have changed and hitting kids is not acceptable...

the older generation paint a very rosy picture of the olden days.....of course there were unruly kids back then......that why there were approved schools and borstals....full of em!....
And asylums and "Maggie" homes ( courtesy of Popey+ co.)for lost women  but there were fewer on the streets  and fewer plod to police them . and fewer paper pushing scrotes .

Shout at them for being naughty but could`nt really do much else, if your stupid enough to leave a 5 year old kid with a pot of paint anywhere near your nice clean tiled/carpeted floor you deserve everything you get .
