If ever there was a man who showed up this countries disgusting patronage then this must be him.

We have many people working for charities etc and doing real good for nothing.

We then have this guy, done naff all, worth around £60M according to the news, living in SA, and knighted to boot. What a shambles.

Quite interesting to see that the British Consul has been trying to see him since it happened for support I guess .... wonder what the civil servant would do for an innocent football supporter ? SFA no doubt.

Not only are the concepts of lineage and knighthood outdated and absurd, but the fact he can live in South Africa, take activity in personal warmongering (ok, let's not lay accusations until the trial's over) and still maintain his position.

I'm not a vindictive type normally, but if he's found guilty, I hope he gets the maximum sentence, this sort of activity cannot be tolerated.

I agree that hereditary titles are stupid, as is the tradition of civil servants getting honours just as soon as they reach a certain weight. However, I think that the honours in themselves are still valid as ever. I just have issues with the way the candidates are selected.

However, a guy at work was awarded the MBE for his work in fostering links between schools and industry, and being an ambassador for engineering in general. He is the complete opposite of the typical candidate, a loud, funny-looking Lancastrian. Needless to say, he didn't earn it by sitting around spending tax-payers' money and attending gala luncheons. Unfortunately he is the exception rather than the rule.

I would rather see that HONOURS are awarded to those whose achievements are worth HONOURING. No more of this "Will they support our party?" nonsense.

I didn't know Mark Thatcher had been knighted. Until this latest incident, the last I heard was that he was the stupid oik that got lost in the dessert or something. Can't remember the full story.

Does anybody know, what great service he did to recieve this accolade?

I also find it sickening that so many celebs get gongs, simply for being successful. Under the pretext of "For Services to .."(insert a sport or type of entertainment here). The b*ggers didn't do it as a service to anything, their motives are money, money, fame and er.. money!

If these awards are justified, then surely every single soldier that fought for this country, should recieve one as a matter of course, as should every teacher that has taught in an inner city school, the list goes on and on.

Come to think of it, if nobody in England ever recorded another record, I don't think I'd loose much sleep over it. But anyone that go down a public sewer and clear a major blockage, getting covered head to toe in human excrement, for less money than Elton John spends on flowers in a day, gets my vote every time.

It was a hereditary baronacy which passed automatically from his father, so he didn't have to do anything except outlive his father, impressive achievment for "Thickie"

You lot don't know the facts of the case yet, just as I don't. So before you start condemming, WAIT!!! This sort of attitude is what causes totally innocent people in this country to be imprisioned. Think, you could be there too, and if you think you couldn't, talk to someone who has been stitched up and see how close it could get.

Or mend it incorrectly so it's fuel economy is slightly reduced and thus causes a minor inconvenience!

Or climb into his garden and empty his oil tank at night.

Although, £60M... he probably has a £5 note-fired boiler made out of gold with the little window to check the flame made out of diamonds. And his solid silver pipes are lagged with mink.

If M Thatcher is put in the can, then there should be -or they should add- in the Bible the line "Thou shalt pay for the sins of your forebears" or something like that

What you write makes no sense, since (if I recall correctly) there is something to the effect "the sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the sons" it's already there, but so what? Except possibly a reminder to people not to get up to too many bad things if you have any concern for the well being of your children, 'cos they might cop it.

It must be difficult to get into work mode when your dad is (was) a self made millionaire and your mother the most powerful woman in the western world ... good or bad ... Just how do you top that lot ??
