Masonic

This once cropped with me whilst chatting to a business colleague by sheer chance. The subject just kind of drifted onto the Masons, he sat their listening and then just came out and said he was quite high in his local lodge and joining me was no problem. He left saying to have a think about it and let him know. I never bothered and he as never mentioned it or offered again. Very strange, is joining by invite only?

Still curious what goes on there, but not enough to to make an effort to find out.

Am'I or is that my surname !

Andy Mason --- handy brickie etc --- yeah probably ;)
No secret there then !

I have many friend whose are Freemason and been invited enough time to join (I don't want to) and in Southend they have the most Freemason than any part of the UK. The Southend council has tried to break it up because it's getting too big & powerful but the council failed.
I don't know what goes on but I think it's very childish to have a secret group because the impression I'm getting and most people is what are they trying to hide? They've told me they do a lot of charity work and they still won't tell me which one ! Bit childish I think.......

My Grandfather was a freemason, and my father was asked to join, they like things to run that way. He refused, and hence I've never been asked to join. Think of all those funny handshakes I've been missing. Sigh !

I think peeps here know more than they let on !!!

Hows about, the other night on the lantern, a prog about the stabbing of a guy on slip road near the junction of the M25 and M20.
The Policeman in charge related how the suspect, when initially questioned about a previous offence, namely stabbing an undercover Police officer 22 times in self defence --- Did the handshake, and made a point of mentioning he was a Mason and knew this 'person and that' ???
Now, what was that Policeman alluding to ? I know what he left me thinking .... They had to keep the final 'driver incident' case secret among only a few officers, on strictly 'need to know' basis.

Very few people give up their time for nothing !!

My brother in law was invited to join by his uncles and after spending the evening serving wine around a table to all that sat around and being told he would have to make several "donations" for various things he decided it wouldn't be financially rewarding enough for him and his business so decided not to join.

3-00am --- Watching the film then ?

Perhaps kendor's bro-in-law jumped too quickly, financial involvement can show a serious intent to commit -- may have been worth a few hundred quid -- there must be an 'inner sanctum' to which only the 'committed' are invited -- wheels within wheels -- It isn't what you know, but who that eventually provides the greatest assist.

Why should so many Police officers apparently be involved ? Non-business people, what do they have to offer ? Except, maybe, a 'blind eye' at an opportune moment, extra survailance of a vulnerable premises, inside info be it vehicle registration or records and worst of all, info regarding ongoing investigations ???
Conversly what do they gain in return ??

Food for thought ...
;)

The idea of this elitist organisation (as you know) is to help out members 'you rub my back and I'll rub yours" jobs for the boys nudge nudge wink wink!
Trouble is if you give abit more to one person you have to take it away from another although this sounds innocent enough it does involve livelihoods.

I understand that's how it used to be but not now. I know a few freemason's who are not well off and haven't given anything. We'll never know though

doesn't mean monetary its more to do with favours, etc., I bought a business once which turned out to be heap of junk, I found out that the seller was a mason as was the valuer the agent and my bank manager. but of cause I was inevitably responceable.
