Is not the main problem (and potential fire risk) due to such an issue due to the overheating (which you report) due to the high resistance/impedance connection, rather than any arcing which occurs (which presumably requires transient total disconnection of the conductor?) ?

In any event, since you reported that this did not cause the AFDD to operate, that presumably brings into question whether such things are much use, anyway, doesn't it?
