Menvier TS 400 alarm issues

Hi, I have a Menvier TS400 and I keep getting a tamper red light, even when I'm at home and the alarm is off. I think it has something to do with a dodgy sensor on the front door.

- Does anyone know how to fix this?
- More importantly, it's due for a service, I'm in NW London (Belsize Park, between Hampstead and Primrose Hill). Is there anyone on this forum who could come and check it over for me?

Hi Oliver, will check with a colleague that is based in London if they cover your area. I would remove your postcode from the forum post.

It could be anything including a low panel battery causing issues and this panel has a global tamper circuit.

if it was the dodgy door contact there should be 4 wires, you can link the tamper ones together and it may rectify the tamper fault.

Thanks so much. I think linking the tamper wires is beyond my competence, but I've just ordered a new battery, as the existing one is over a decade old (although it did its job and kept the siren going when I turned off the mains). But if your colleague does cover my area it'd be great to be in touch with them. It's well overdue a look-over, even if it is a very simple set-up. Even if he (she?) couldn't get to me soon, then we could possibly troubleshoot over a video call in the first instance, and then arrange a visit later on.

we can trouble shoot over a phone call but it is chargeable unless offered on here for free.

Given the age of the system I would be tempted to do things on here for free first rather than throw money at the system.

why do think its a faulty contact/ sensor on front door?

My thought was about the door because it's a bit loose in its frame (so has been shaking in all this strong wind we've been having) and has also warped, so the sensors are slightly 'out' by a few mm, and I wondered whether that might be it. Just speculation...

Nothing else has changed on the system. I went up a ladder and checked the siren box, and that all seems fine, no loose screws or water ingress. Gave it a careful clean-out from the bit of dust that was there, but it was otherwise fine.

But perhaps it's just the old battery and I should change that first? (Mine's a PowerSonic PS-1221 - and was wondering if you'd recommend one of those or a Yuasa one, or a different make.)

If it comes to troubleshooting over a phone/video call, I'd be more than happy to be charged for it at your or your colleague's normal rate.

Post pictures of the bell box, and devices connected.

If your not capable of doing the tamper wires then not sure a video call will be very helpful for you.

Another quick question: the only way I could get the alarm to stop was to disconnect the mains power supply AND remove the battery. Is there a way of deactivating the system while it's all still wired up? I just reconnected the mains to see what would happen, and just in that split second it provided enough juice to the siren's capacitor that it started going (faintly) for about half an hour. So it'd be great to be able to shut down the whole thing...

decommissioning it by removing all power (safely, not sure how competent you are if twisting tamper wires together isn't something you can do.), sounds like you may have other issues (bell faintly going off for 30 minutes) doesn't sound perfectly normal to be fair.

It's not so much that I can't twist tamper wires together, it's that I don't know which ones the tamper wires are. I'll send some photos and see if you're able to guide me. I'm able to remove the power (and I think it's safe). I've got two new PIRs as well, so I'll change those. Wiring looks pretty straightforward, but I might run it by you.

Stop!

You need to do things systematically rather introduce changes left right and centre.

Battery change yes.

Images yes.

it’s a global tamper for the zones so you can’t stop link that out in the panel to eliminate tampers coming from the zones.

If the later resolved your issue then we can look if you have a tester at which pair is causing the tamper, if tamper still present it’s from another source.
