What makes me laugh is the way disgusted from Northumberland is advising how to get top of the range this that and the other. Yet it was only a few weeks ago he didn't even know how to wire a basic detector.
Suddenly he's the peoples champion.

Misguided and dangerous.

i will not allow if i can people to be ripped off or over charged - you defened your trades all you want, you already admit to people on here that there are theifs in your industry who steal goods then sell it on ebay, they get sacked and banned from the industry

so we have theifs and now we have companys charging £282 to change a battery that includeds a £200 call out charge, making more money from driving to customers house, then they do from a one hour labour charge,

and you are right i had no idear what eol was, as i had never came across this before, but it turned out its a very simple alarm feature of wiring.

op glad you have seen sense, get the engineers code off the ransom holders, and have a little think to your self about a possible new alarm panel in the futre which you remain the admin of and have full control of your system.
And there are village idiots on here who have been made aware of the issues but happily buy said product.
Pots and kettles.

Oh, and tell us all. How is the OP to 'get' the engineer code?

I did not and do not owe them any money.

I kept the maintenance going for a couple of years after the initial installation.

Then stopped it and called them after?

Yes I call them as and when I need them. For example I had a new front door fitted.
They came out and fitted a new door detector and billed me for £150.
Every time they come to me it costs me dear. So why do I want to keep giving them £112 a year on top of all this cash?

The system runs fine inbetween Battery changes, and its used everyday several times a day and every night.

OP try SECOM they are in Perivale Middlesex.
There are about 4 other alarm companies there too.

Get 3 quotes, why didn't you before?

I`ll still do you a free reset to get Lee2009`s blood pressure down.

£150 is about right for this in that area for a new contact fitting and wiring.
Without the maint contract it would be higher and they would take 3 weeks to come out.

So your obviously happy at some stage with them.

op im going to make a coffee, dont u dare tell me you was charged £600 to move a panel, then dwon to £350 when you complained, ill be back in 5, i aint even read your post but i will.

and now they want £282 to change the battery again? please tell me what you are saying is the same as im understanding?

you got any idear on how much money you have gave these people when they fitted it so far? can you put it on here please

12 years ago the system cost me £1100.

All the wires were already in place as it was a new build just waiting to except an alarm system of the house buyers choice.

The system consists of 4 pir's, a front door detector, an internal bell and an outside bell and a key pad to arm and disarm

back then lets say £100 for the panel, 4 pirs ill be very generous here and ill use pro gear pirs for my price then add a little 4 pirs @ £25 quid each. and £180 max for a front door detector, an internal bell and an outside bell and a key pad to arm and disarm[/quote

so £100 + £100 + £180, thats £380 to supply the gear = £720 to fit a panel to existing wiring and program the system, says it all yet again, especially all them years ago.

op you could have a top of the range system, using your existing wiring (if in good nick etc)

for the same items you have now still for under £400, if you can fit it yourself you will be very proud of yourself.

like i say, those 2 guys on here will have you belive taht your alarm is a nasa super computer and you must have level 100 clearance before you are allowed to change a battery, replace a pir or install your own system etc etc etc, no wonder on the trade sites the prices are kept secret to what the gear costs.

op would you pay me £720 to build you a pc not inculding any parts? and i would use your existing pc tower to install the gear your buying? remember you still owe me the money for the parts on top of that £720 charge.

Thanks for that. I'll give them a call Monday. They are local to me.

Thanks for the offer for the free reset. If it worked you'd get a drink from me without a doubt.

When my new Battery arrives im just going to take the plunge and do what I planed to do before I decided to come on here and unclip the old one, put the F1 terminals onto the new Battery and hope my code silences the bells.

And please enlighten everyone by showing exactly where we have alluded to such.

He can't.

So, the village idiot makes up stories yet again.

Im laughing like hell here. Your humor is funny. Hey I have to laugh or I'll cry about all the money I've paid them over the years
I only came on tonight for a quick check and look at the time already

Dont thank me yet.

The reset i`ll make an exception for but I will need the companies name so I know what alogrithim I need.

Do not connect anything to the fuses. Just change the battery.

Existing cable used, just a stick on contact as went from a wooden door to a composite

Lee your boring now. Know not a lot and make a lot of noise.
I would love to have you send me a copy of the programming so I can see what your doing wrong.

I have all the major RSS suites and could even UDL in and have a peek.

Fiver says your all over the shop on a few things.

just what kind of money is involved in this trade.

What do you do?

I think mechanics get overpaid, hence I do my own. Unless its brakes, then I let a pro do it.
I think Plumbers are expensive, but it is gas and water.
Electrics I do myself and certify.
Computers and routers DVRs I do myself charge a lot but less than so called data cables jockeys.

What is your point here?

A pair of trainers cost 45p to make we pay 60 quid.

What is your point here?

A fishing rod costs 12 quid to make, sells for 1000 quid.

What is your point here?
