I meggar before filling with compound, and once filled....and agin when crimped.
When stripping, I always hold a pair of pliers at the 'finish' point, and let the stripping tool run upto this - when it hits the pliers is rings itself. Lovelly clean flat end, not bent in or out.
I have done some 16mm 4c pyro, and people always say "bet that was difficult" - Complete opposite. The smaller sizes can be fiddly!
I always give the cores a tug with some pliers before and after crimping to ensure they pull tight through the compound to the seal.
I often find people allow the pot to tighten or loosen on the cable during crimping (lack of control of crimp tool), this causes most of the faults I find.
The bigest tip to give - do not let the copper work harden. Stripping and potting is then a real PITA! Also, do not over tighten the gland - the olive can sever the sheath.
