Because, in the course of a fair trial, it may emerge that there were mitigating circumstances. For example, in English Law, diminished responsibility is a valid defence submission. So is self-defence. So is aggravation. There may be others.

However, I'm more than a little concerned that you can't help but end even this, at your pinnacle of calm, with the mantra "HANG THEM HIGH", and the posts you've made to others, following the one containing the above quotes, are, frankly, raving.

Slogger, debating with you is like offering an unprotected hand to a wild dog - immediately after a big meal the risk might be tiny, but give it a few minutes and all hell lets loose again.
