Muslim / Gypsy burial conflict - The facts

Burbage Parish Council has sought to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner and has had extensive dialogue with both families concerned. We have also taken extensive legal advice on all matters associated with the issues raised.
It will be fascinating to see how this issue is finally resolved. The newspaper article referred to in the previous thread referred to the possibility of there being a hedge planted around the offending grave. If this does prove to be successful in appeasing all parties concerned, then perhaps the council could replace Mr Blair in the Middle East and start planting some box hedging around Israel. Sometimes the simplest solutions are overlooked

It'll never work - roots don't take well in tunnels!

It is an inflamed non-story.

The sensationalist part, i.e. the bit about exhumation does not even exist.

Take that away and all you have is an argument over a village grave plot. One being a deceased merchant banker and the other a Gypsy.

Hardly headline news.

Mrs Ahmad added: "There has never been a time when we have asked for the person's body to be exhumed. It is totally and utterly untrue
We were unaware someone not of the Muslim faith could also be buried there because of what they had said. "We asked the council if there was anything they could do and they said there was not. We have no problem with Mr Smith, it is the council giving us the perception that we had been given this area when in actual fact they hadn't. We feel very let down.

"It has all been blown out of proportion.
"

While it appears to have been sensationalised with regard to the exhumation part, it doesn't mean it's all about nothing, like you're all trying to make out. At the end of the day, muslims said we don't want him buried next to our relative because he's a gypsy.

Yes, the muslims do not seem as unreasonable as the article made out, but they still complained initially due to intolerance.

Whereas no other person from any religion, faith or creed, believer nor non believer ever complains about anything, nor shows any intolerance

Indeed, this very thread demonstrates how nobody is complaining nor being intolerant of the wishes of a particular group of people.

What is distasteful here is some hack journo writing a story that untruthfully suggests some body is going to be dug up.

And a bunch of Islamophobes continue to rant and ignore the fact:

"An inaccurate, divisive and inflammatory article printed in The Hinckley Times appeared to indicate that Burbage Parish Council has considered the exhumation of a person recently interred at Burbage Cemetery – this is totally untrue and without foundation. "
Couldn't agree more.

Sorry this is off-topic, but I have been unable to proceed beyond Page 8 of this thread in Firefox. This happened before some time ago, and I have been trying various things to overcome the problem, such as disabling various add-ons, without success.

However, I have been able to access Pages 9 and 10 using Chrome (as you can see from this post). I can't understand what the problem is, but the most straightforward way to overcome it seems to be to use Chrome instead of Firefox.

Perhaps this may be of help if anyone else should encounter similar problems.

Apologies for interposing in the discussion.

, the ROP will probably get their way.

Are you suggesting that some body is going to be dug up?

Who knows. The ROP are very forceful people as is shown by the fact that they complained. Maybe the ROP body will be moved, and a large dollop of compensation. Who know? More than a little ironic that even in death, the diddys are still under possible threat of being moved on.

ignore the main issue.

Yes, why are you ignoring the main issue, that some dishonest hack wrote an inflammatory and untrue article suggesting falsely that some body was going to be dug up?

But not all of his story was baseless. Surely it's inflammatory to complain that their relative was next to a gypsy?

Perhaps you can answer a question now - what was the reason that the ROP family complained about the qypsy in the plot next to their relative? What exactly was their objection to his presence?

Sometimes you do ask stupid questions. The man had died of natural causes so was not HALAL

You mean you are claiming that some body might be dug up.

On what do you base this claim, when the Ministry of Justice and the council which manages the cemetery say not?

You surely don't think that JohnD is going to answer that WS? He won't. He'll skirt round the subject with some inane ramblings concerning the press, the council and the gypsy family. ;) ;)

(He's stuck in a loop, a bit like a scratched record on a turntable)
