backup controls don't need to be fancy touch screen jobs

It is quicker and cheaper to fit a bought in touch screen than to fit a few push buttons and indicator LEDs to PCBs. If ( as is normal ) the screen display is fully programmable then one type of touch screen module can be used in all varients of the appliance.

That said I am not keen on Touch Screens

I believe there are pcbs are are standard and used by many makers. The functions of the average kit combis are the same. Only someone who deals in the pcbs would know how compatible they are. Off the shelf touch screen controls that are applicable to a vast range of combis cannot be difficult to produce.

I have just come back from the South of France. The apartment I rented had a Miele washing machine and tumble dryer, all touch screen. The ease of use was brilliant.

The Ferrolli Modena 16 litre per min is. Excellent boiler. No one knows anything about the Navien, and you fall in line.

They have a Navien on display in our local PB. Looks well built inside. Hydro blocks are the same as Baxi. So expect leaking diverter cartridge.

Main Hex looks like a good bit of engineering

You can pipe behind the boiler without a separate jig. But only 4 pipes!!

They are a lot deeper than most boilers. Not suitable for cupboard fit. Similar to Intergas ?

You can fit them outside “really”

Buy 20 and they take you to Korea. Buy 40 and its Korea and LA.

I’m going to fit one when I get a chance, just to see what they are like.

Can’t see them pushing other manus out of the way. But a local large independent has committed to 200. Might be a new build deal

Ideals have 15mm tails for gas. Still have to achieve the minimum WP though.

Standard model can be fitted outside.

A game changer. If the words gets around they will increase sales for sure. Outside boilers are great space savers in small British homes. The only other combi I know that can be fitted outside is a Vokera which is a special order.

The Navien inst' manual does not mention outside installation, or whether anti-freeze should be put in the system. But Rinnai have external multipoints with fresh water in them.

What makes you think they are using the same cartridge.
