Need a Driving licence but how?

I used to be a Civil Servant, and could sign these things for people, obviously when I left I no longer could. I've often wondered if, when I retire and am in receipt of my Civil Service pension, I will be able do do them again in my capacity as a "retired Civil Servant".

A shopkeeper can sign; surely you're still of at least an equivalent decent sort?

Know you for what length of time? Can't you hire a solicitor? If you meet him for 5 minutes to pay the fees would that count as knowing you?

Long time ago when I was getting a passport, it needed some kind of signing. I drove around and found a random solicitor and she did it for £10.

They have to be able to identify you and also hold a driving licence and include those details on the photo .

I am sure many solicitors drive. They are not quite up there to have chauffeurs. If you remove your dark glasses, I am sure practically anyone can identify you. I don't think it costs anything to ask them.

They have to know you , DVLC are very clear about that .Solicitor is smart enough not to id a complete stranger without proof of identity .

Yeah but what is the definition of "know"? I know you from this forum; you could PM me a zoom link, I could see you animated, see you hold up your expired passport and check it's you, see you hold up a selection of bank cards, bills etc and other things that you wouldn't have if you weren't you and I could sign the back of a photo

I find it incredible that there is no one in your past or present life that can do this in a face to face, personal context with an increased amount of "know"

I'm sure I did the post office check and send thing before where they did the photos for me, and signed everything that was needed etc for a small fee

You've presumably registered with a new gp practice, or find god and get the local vicar to sign

Post Office will take your photo, countersign it and send it off for you. You will need some other form of identity, such as a bank statement, council tax, DWP letter etc.

I'm about to change mine next week, (10 year rule). and will go to the PO as I don't have a passport.

Show him your council tax bill then. To id myself at the post office for parcels, I just show credit card. I think you are getting worked up for nothing.

Obtaining a driving licence is not the same as collecting a parcel . I accompanied my sister in law to a solicitor on Friday , they asked for id , she had a council tax bill, driving licence and expired passport , these fell short of their id requirements .
