Should the FCU be placed close to the NEST, or can it be placed it nearer to the socket?

Sorry chaps, can I just ask one more very quick question:

If I take the feed from my socket into the FCU, does it matter what size cable I use to do this - as in do I have to use 2.5mm cable from socket to FCU?

It must be capable of carrying 13A which is what the fuse in the FCU will allow - which 1mm² will be

and

the CPC (earth wire) must be capable of handling the fault current that the (presumably) 32A MCB would allow - which 1mm² will be.

No, you don't have to.

Remember that 2.5mm² only has 1.5mm² CPC.

Of course you will have a 3A fuse in the FCU but 13A is the maximum.
