Our regular forces have enough on their plates already without being forced to watch over unwilling 'volunteers' for a couple of years I reckon.
I wouldn't want to trust my life to anyone who didn't want to be there - who had no choice but to be there - was only working out their ticket . . .
Now if they did this using retired forces personnel to knock them into shape without having them in the regular forces -
