Dare I say for safety purposes ?
I was just asking what particularly made you question earthing and bonding specifically on installations old but not that ancient yet not any of a plethora of other possible concerns. So ... why specifically earthing and bonding?

Broken rings, loose connections, VRI cables etc etc etc.

In fact, would you always have faith in earthing and bonding that was undertaken last week? or the other things?

Old installations very commonly have poor or missing earthing or bonding. It is a relatively simple and inexpensive upgrade.

So, when undertaking changes to an installation , a competent spark has to check that earthing and bonding are up to regs. A DIYer isn’t exempt from this.

The op is talking about adding an extractor fan, so these checks should be made

as for other issues, tricky to comment without eyes on site as this always trumps random internet advice

Really appreciate the help and advice. (y)

I will get a pro in to give it a check over.
TBH it might not be after fitting the fan but will be in the near future. Next room to be done will involve quite a bit of electrical work.
