New Boy

1) Sparky ish! Actually a building services engineer with electrical bias, so I deal mainly in three phase, HV substations etc. I'm pretty up to speed on general wiring / 16th edition / C&G 2381 stuff as well though. I've been known as MarkySparky since I was about ten years old, so the nick is just coincidence!

2) I had my brain removed when I became office based and no longer needed it. Being a zombie helps to relieve the tedium of 9-5.

3) Topics titles containing phrases such as "neon screwdriver", "socket in kitchen cupboard" or "Part P" are always well received

4) I tend to hang around the IEE forums. Screwfix is always entertaining in small doses though...

Im not into 3 phase. ive learnt about it. but i think id rather be involved in the domestic side...the fewer voltz the better ;)
I love 3 phase. The more volts the better for me  I steer clear of domestic as much as I can. I just want an easy life. :D

I got an allergy to domestic work too now, why don't you like 3phase Bright_Spark? I can't imagine anyone being daft enough to get a 400v shock can you?

In my experience domestic work was just about tolerable to earn some extra cash but some of the people that lived in the house…….eye opener

no, if ur upto speed on how to work with the stuff then there should be no reon why you wouldnt be able to work safely.

im not sure really spark123, with being fairly new to the trade and teachers at college being mostly domestic installers - they sort of fight for their corner and try and put u off other things. its something i should probably look into doin.

its a bit like learning to drive...u pass your test then you learn how to do it all. a few days on this forum has opened my eyes up to a few things i might like to get involved in.

You would have to simultaneously touch two phases to get a full 400v shock ;), I would hope you let go after toughing the first. The best thing you can do if you are not sure is ask, someone on here or one of the other forums will more than likely be able to help you out.

*Cough*FWL*Cough*

(granted the circumstances that resulted in it probably couldn't have been forseen... but that would just get in the way of a good **** take   )

FWL / Big Spark is quiet nowadays,... How on earth did he get the full 400v shock? Suppose if you stood on a rubber mat or swung on the pylons it may be possible...

I'm in same class as bright_spark and told him how helpful I have found you lot...........

.........keep up the good work chaps ( and chapesess)

ps You want me to keep "spreading" the word or have you had enough of us learners :D
