Hi all

Electrician changed my consumer unit 3 weeks back (not invoiced anything yet) as he has to come back he says to fit blanking entries and only had two on the day of install , then certification paperwork. Cannot get hold of him so might have to get someone to finish job..weird as most people usually want paid!

I was wondering .. he fitted the surge protection thing at the end, and the click elucian CU1RCBO32B for the EV... Said putting these on all ways the thing to do.

Make sense?

I don't have an EV yet but I saw a video on YouTube saying your meant to have neutral also disconnect and this way has a photo on the side of browse online, not showing that.

Good question, I asked him 5 times when he is coming back to finish but he says busy. Considering he paid for a zappi, and the cu, and spent a day here with his brother fitting this (cost me nothing so far)..seems strange not to finish and invoice... (Is it right way rcbo, no idea I am asking you), as only so many times I can send WhatsApp messages asking when to him asking for a date to finish the job

I also just uploaded these photos to myenergi support ticket as they might be able to answer me as well

I thought a zappi had the rcd built into it?

Well I have left two voicemails with the electrician today , saying if he does not contact me tomorrow by end of day, day 22 since last here I am refusing to pay for any of this and finding another electrician to finish the blanking bits, and certification. Let's see if I get a call...

If you look at about 30 mins he uses an mcb not an rcd but it depends how the cable gets there is you cable surface clipped

Cable is along internal brickwork between floors then they drilled out the wall. Clipped guess so but I'd have to look under floorboards and carpet to see what they did.

First thing need to know if safe.

Cannot think of any other trade forking out time and money, then not billing or contactable so making me worried, and just weird not finishing what to me looks like a 5 minute job left and some paperwork to get paid.

Maybe hes ill or something, who knows.

For now get some blanks in the board, you can get them from any electrical wholesaler, turn the power off and click them in.

i thought not allowed to touch it? there are two blanks sitting there not fitted

Oh are they the same size as an mcb type blank? , strange he didn't fit them.

You can get clip in ones if you wanted to do that yourself, you don't need to remove the cover but still turn the power off incase you slip.

My advice is don’t get somebody else in. If the installer wants to be paid he needs to fit the blanks, fit an appropriate RCBO for the EV, do the certificate AND part p and give you an invoice too

I’ve not fitted one of those but shouldn’t the surge protection have a MCB?

A bit odd he’s not replying
