New loft insulation Quote.

As I am no longer able to get up into our loft due to back problems plus I have been told that there are signs of damp and the insulation is very old, house being some 20 years old I have today received a quote for new Loft Insulation as follows:

Loft Floor Measurement = 35 sq mtrs. Propert Semi Detached.
Remove and dispose of existing 300mm deep fibre glass.
Give a full mould treatment.
Install 'knauf' earth wool 44.
Ensure vents are clear and insulate areas that were previosly empty.
Re-install boarded area approx 3 sq mtrs on risers.
Company has a Trust Pilot review of 4.6.

Price quoted is £3300.00 is this a reasonable price for the work?

Easy to check cost of insulation ,( supply only) if you know the depth they are fitting
What is the mould treatment ?
Then labour on top ,various things that alter that ( how much stuff in loft )

The recommended depth for loft insulation is 270–300 mm.

So, they will be taking out your insulation and refiitting to the same depth.

Get more quotes, that seems too much money.

Seems expensive to me too and somewhat unnecessary, prey tell where did you find this tradesman, can't be more than two days work or something. If there are signs of damp then what good is mould treatment without first understanding why the damp has occurred. Do you have any trustworthy relatives or friends or neighbours who would be willing to go up and have a look?

There is nothing in the loft and it is very damp due to condensation plus there are signs of mould on and in the insulation.
I am told they fit the insulation between the rafters and then lay another layer across the rafters so that there are no gaps.

Seems a bit bonkers to remove insulation and replace it with insulation - there seems no reason why the new insulation won't get damp in exactly the same way. I'd try and find someone who can be trusted to know why there's a damp problem and how to address it.
...and what's wrong with old insulation?

Have you got a bathroom extractor or kitchen hood blowing up into loft space? Some of the extractor ducting is shocking. That will make your loft mouldy.
You also need vent in loft walls if you have any or roof vents fitted in the tiles. This will keep fresh air blowing through loft.

I don't understand what is causing mould? It won't naturally occur.
