Sinclair ZX81 wasn't a games machine Big-all. It was probably the first home computer sold in this country.
Had to plug it into a TV (as the monitor) then program the bloody thing.
Typical example of BASIC programming.
10 for n = 1 to 50
20 x= n+1
20 Print " Big-all"
30 next x
40 run
This would result in the screen filling up with Big-all in line down the screen
until it reached line 50. Bloody great fun (not)
You could buy magazines with program lists. You'd spend hours typing in exactly what it said in the magazine, only to find , when you tried to run it, there was a fatal error on line 3460. Grrrrrrr
Well I've forgotten a lot of basic programming since then so if it's wrong I apologise (but it was something like that)
