New System

Thanks. While you were posting, I was browsing ebuyer.

This dirt cheap system caught my eye. I know it's low spec, but what interested me was the review, which said the processor can be upgraded in the future. Is this worth a punt?

In real world terms, using it for what Mrs S wants to use it for, is there a huge difference in performance between the HP system and the cheaper one from ebuyer?

Which dirt cheap system?

As George Michael once said, "..if you're gonna do it, do it right, right?" !!!

This is good value, only 2 components differ from my bog standard list and that's the CPU is dual core at 2.6, and the hard drive is not 120Gig its 500Gig

What your getting here is definitely worth the money, but..........

It has no operating system, so you would either have to stump up the cash for an OEM, or you could use a *** ******* ******* and get it for free!!!!

Also if you knew someone who could install said operating system, what would they want as payment, there are many websites that give a step by step guide to do it yourself so defo give that a bash!!

OR

Ahem

You could legally buy Windows 7 for about £40ish from
www.software4students.co.uk

Now as long as you are a student (or say you are) you can get it for this price.

You dont need a .ac.uk email address as with other discounted sites (to prove you are a student) and no checks are done afterwards.

Ahem

I gotta get my cough looked at :)

Those are upgrade editions. You can't use them without a valid license for an existing version of Windows. They're also lying about the RRP.

Yes they are upgrade versions, I forgot to say, but if you quickly do a XP install, it then has to do a full install of win 7 as XP cant be upgraded.

Its a nice cheap way of getting this software as long as you can get XP installed 1st.

Flippin 'eck pal, have you not bought a system yet, or are you going to ask for guidance everytime a different piece of kit appears? ;)

On the subject of new systems, I have seen another at Comet.

Without getting into a big discussion, is it worth the dosh? It's £200 off.

For someone like me who is able to build a PC from scratch, the answer is NO

But to anyone else, its not bad AMD are not as good as INTEL but you get what you pay for, AMD athlons are now around £40 with 2Gig DDR2 starting from £21, a bog standard case is £22 that includes 500w PSU, DVD Writer is £12, a 500Gig SATA hard drive is £27, so that only leaves the motherboard and a legitimate copy of windows, all that adds up to £122 which still leaves £150 for motherboard and windows 7

Recommend 3Gig+ for your memory, and either i3 or i5 INTEL for your CPU and if possible stretch to a minimum 512MB graphics card

We are going over the same old ground again DOHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!
