New water mains pipe or accumulator in Potters Bar, Herts Update 11/9

As far as i know the static pressure will be the same, its only flow that will increase.

Small world I'm non-adjoining next door to 195. I understand what you say about their combi but only a couple of weeks ago they did not realise that raw sewage was leaking from the drain on the drive outside their house ☹. With all the advice given above (thanks to all) it sounds like I need to get the pressure/flow tested at the mains outside to see if its worth upgrading the mains supply pipe to the house? Is this something the water company will do or do I need to call a specialist company?

Whoever tests the mains, I'll wait till the holidays are over as the water pressure/flow always drops away when everyone's back at work/school. If I understand correctly, whichever way I go with the heating and hot water the mains water is the first thing to check and/or upgrade?

Lol! Small world indeed!
Yes, landlord told me about the blocked drain and the sewage problem - I was away on holiday (thankfully ;)).
Your water supplier will come and test the mains if you give them a buzz.
Sounds like it could definitely do with a new main.
I have a moleing crew I use.
If you want us to come look then send me a text or pm me.

Cheers,
Dean

Well after a few weeks waiting and a lot of phone calls to Affinity Water, on the second visit from one of their engineers I got the mains pressure/flow readings from the mains in the street outside. Pressure is 2.5 and flow rate is 35 lpm. Inside the house the its just below 2.5 bar but only 15 lpm.

Does this mean that it's worth upgrading/replacing my supply pipe from the mains outside into the house in order to have either an unvented cylinder type system or even a high flow combi? Thanks chaps (and chapesses :).

Yup.

Any idea of potential cost of new mains supply pipe, around 15 meters from main to existing incoming supply stopcock?

I was given a rough quote over the phone of around £600-£900 for about 6 meters of 25mm. This included connection to the main in the street.

I was worried it would be a bit spendy....feels like money that should go on the heating/hot water solution but I suppose it's like making sure you have good foundations before building a house?

Not had ours done yet, its an old 1/2" copper pipe by the look of it, maxes out at 14lpm. Going to see how the new shower via the combi does before spending on it.

Our thermostatic mixer shower has now decided to only run just above lukewarm...bit of a coincidence its happened just after the mains test ☹. Hot is perfect to all taps, losing the will now.

Update...new 22mm mains pipe fitted from edge of our property into house, flow is now noticeably better :D. I'm now awaiting a quote for a new boiler and unvented cylinder solution, which I hope will allow 2 showers to run at the same time. Many thanks to dilalio of this forum. I'll keep popping updates on as it may help other users. I also want a water softener, Monarch seem to do a halfway reasonable high-flow version for around £500, anyone have any experience with either Monarch or other softeners combined with an unvented setup?

Tapworks AD11

Thanks fezster, I'll have a look at that one. I would quite like one that doesn't need a power supply but they are ££££££+++
