I was born three months prem and suffered oxygen starvation as a result. I have CP and myriad other conditions too numerous to mention, but have managed to achieve good (if not stunning) results at school and various colleges.

I'm not, I'm his biggest supporter, I really feel bad for him, as he really doesn't understand stuff and his life must be frankly pretty tough, doesn't alter the fact he has intellectual challenges, nor does it excuse his laziness.

Sometimes conditions can be confused for laziness.
I have several that cause fatigue and weakness, to top it off I have OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea) which compounds them!

I get tired quickly and spend a fair amount of time asleep during the day.

Sometimes it's not just laziness, it can be disinterest too. He's only 18, well, nearly and often kids that age yet don't know what to do in life. I hope when he finds his niche that he will excel.

But at least have do have some idea of what the other 2 are interested in, namely, PlayStation, food and money (oddly not girls it seems........ hmmm!)

Just out of interest, why are you getting him a camera? Is this not something he's expressed interest in before? Sounds like a waste of money!!

He asked for one for his birthday, I didn't just randomly pick something (that I know very little about)

Hmm, I think we should start a bit basic, my son is sadly a bit err, err, shall we say challenged (Not his fault, he was born effectively lifeless)

So sorry to hear that. Suitable camera's for him in my opinion are either a Fuji compact, look at the Fuji UK website to see if they are still operating the Factory Repack offering; if they do then the cameras are about half price of new, just not in the Factory box. ALternatively, the Olympus 'Tough', waterproof, drop proof, designed to stand up to rough handling and bad conditions.

Is he moderately computer literate? If so then look up 'GIMP', Open Source photo editing software to let him edit (manipulate) digital photos.

Good question, I'd honestly be inclined to say no.

While what I suggest will not fit the box, mirror less ‘DSLR’ seems to have the edge over DSLR with optical viewfinder.

I feel I should update on this, he decided fortunately before a camera was purchased, that he wasn't interested in it. he's hard work!
