The private sector SAR team are now playing catch up, the police having taken the lead on widening the search. The known unknowns and the unknown unknowns are confusing, maybe plod have a cunning plan. Let's hope they don't make the classic mistake of deciding who it is without evidence.

Blup

Amateur sleuths (?) probably fruit cakes ? Have travelled up to 80 miles to investigate the dissapearance

Some face ache group now has more than 20,000 members including some who have posted about there visits to the site

One fruit cake (?) has been posting videos of him self searching the river bank and near bye buildings

One group of woman ( fruit cakes )travelled 30 miles for no other purpose than to see what was going on

The media do seem to be trying to position plod as incompetent. And now the SARs team are being accused of having a PR agenda. Well forgive the guy for wanting a bit of PR on the back of driving from dorking to the north of England in February and jumping in a muddy river FOC to help the family.
here is a telephone discussion with Peter Faulding, he is clearly a decent guy and he definitely doesnt need any PR.

from around 7:20

the youtube channel isnt some gob on a stick, its by Mark Williams-Thomas, a previous detective and has worked with Peter Faulding.

So, he reckons there could be a third party involved and the phone could be a decoy.

Police are using dispersal powers to ask Social media "influencers" to leave the scene. While I accept that this is an annoyance and distasteful in many regards, IMO the press should not enjoy a privileged status.

How would news reach the great unwashed if this was the case?

They should be treated the same. Nowadays news comes from many sources - the "press" should not enjoy a special status. If their actions interfere with the investigation they should be subject to the same controls.

Without "press" privilege how would events like the Queens funeral, or reports from Ukraine ever reach our eyes & ears

The queens funeral - By invitation.
War in Ukraine - nothing stopping anyone.

My issue is that it should be "what you are doing" not "who you are" that determines if you should be asked to stop/leave/disperse.

Indeed the press were invited to cover because they are accredited, would you like to see a scrummage around Rishi next time he visits a jam factory or well ordered reporting

Not sure about that, there has been very little news indeed from the front line of that war, just the usual propaganda you expect to be fed to the media. Much of the censorship seems self imposed, maybe for understandable reasons.
