Hi all,

You may have seen my recent posts around suspected lack of mist coat which turned out to be distemper ceilings. However, I do believe the previous owners didn't put a mist coat on when they had the walls skimmed. There's peeling paint in a few places already, and fresh paint I've applied hasn't adhered in a few spots and I've been able to scrape back right to the plaster. For now my tactic is to just scrape back, peelstop and fill. However I'm wondering if there's some miracle product that will prevent fresh paint causing the peeling in the first place? Potentially Gardz will do the job as it'd prevent the moisture from the fresh paint getting back to the plaster, but Gardz is water based so would it have the same impact?

Grateful for any insight here, the thought of having to scrape back to plaster in every room as we come to decorate them is painful

Coverstain or BIN.
20 years ago I lashed oil undercoat on surfaces to create a water barrier.
Covering up just gets you a few more years but someone will have to deal with it when it needs to come off.

No shortcuts in decorating

Interesting, I was thinking bullseye 123 might be the one! So many of the Zinsser products seem to do the same thing?

Honestly wayners this isn’t going to be our forever home, at the moment the priority is just to start making progress with the decorating to keep the other half happy!

There is some crossover with zinsser products.
You can't use BIN outside. It's too brittle.
It's terrible with opacity. Very thin so application is not easy. Quick drying at around 45mins making it a great primer especially over water stains or as an adhesion primer.

Coverstain won't work on some stains. Very thick but will de nib nicely. Great opacity. Can take 7 days to fully cure making it a problem on some surfaces. Who can wait 7 days..... I use to stain block and high build on old wood. Great outdoors. Americans use it outside.

Bullseye 123 is near useless as a stain blocker. It's an undercoat and sealer that's waterbased so no smell. Needs good prep for it to stick.

Each product has it's strengths and weaknesses. Read zinsser website for product specifics
