Sad news. :( A nice bloke and kind to animals.

Regrets, I've had a few. When I first lived & worked in t'smoke I spent some considerable time in a real norf Lahndan boozer frequented by some very memorable characters who took pity on this young lad far from home, took me under their collective wing, & promptly proceeded to virtually ruin me in drink.

That pub was the Hope & Anchor on Tottenham Lane, where I would sit at the landlords round table alongside Ray Reardon, Lofty off Eastenders, the chairman of Gallaher Ltd, a very famous London gangsters son & occassionally Sam Fox. Almost no one believes this ever happened, I knew Sam was a lettuce licker even at the height of her fame & during one very intense period of 'tabloid' activity she spent a few weeks with me at 'me mams' where all my old t'village mates thought she was a very poor Sam Fox look-a-like :)

They liked nothing more than when they were teaching me 'how to be a propah Lahndaner', & I remember two things they insisted I do that I never did. The first was to visit the pub where Barbara Windsor would frequent & hold court. A very backstreet, insignificant Lahndan boozer where if you turned up & behaved she'd buy you a pint & giggle while poking you & pretending you were Sid James . . . .

The other was a night at the Vauxhall Tavern, where Lily Savage was compere for very many years. "The best night out you'll ever have" they used to say . . . . .

"Why are their no snakes in Ireland" Lily would say, " 'Cos they're all behind the bar in the pubs of London" :)

I got on well with Ray Reardon & I still get on well with my Sam. I wish I'd took the chance to meet Babs & Lily.

Whoops! Missed it. Should've known Stivino wouldn’t have. ;)
I have a bit of a connection with Ken Buchanan.
I met him when I was very young, it must have been before he was famous. He was a joiner/carpenter and he made two book cases for my grandfather, who commented that he was a better boxer than he was a joiner.

This is a photo of The Sparta Boxing Club. It was taken in Broughton School in the late 40's. There are four members of my family in the picture.
It was taken before Ken joined the club.

Pretty sure I saw him in the Bill Nicholson suite in White Hart Lane after the Bruno Bugner fight. I seem to recall he was a bit 'hands on' with quite a few of the ladies there who had their photo's taken with him unless I’m thinking of a different Scottish fighter.
