Mary Quant
Over dinner last night, Mrs Mottie told me that she had been with her little sister during the day and her sister, again, told her of the joy of getting a Mary Quant make-up set as a present from me at our first Christmas together in 1978. Her sister must have been about 14 or 15 and she said she always remembers it because it was her first bit of 'proper' make-up. I couldn’t remember but Mrs Mottie told me that that Christmas I had bought her a gold gate bracelet (which she still has) and her little brother a Star Wars light sabre. Apparently, I was such a generous person to Mrs Mottie-to-be that her sister had a nickname for me and that was her 'flexible friend'! It came about because of an advert that was on at the time and if her sister answered the phone when I phoned up, she would make the noise of the Access card flexing before handing the phone to Mrs Mottie-to-be. The irony is that I was a cash person and didn’t get a credit card until years after we met. The things that come out after a few glasses of wine - Mrs Mottie has the memory of an elephant - when it suits her!

Launched by Lloyds, NatWest and Midland in 72 and taken over by MasterCard in 96.

If it went in 1996, why posting now? Maestro cards are being phased out in Europe from 1st July 2023.
I did wonder the same, then I read the post fully.
