Its not about the current rating. That is not the issue I'm concerned about. I just want to understand the reason certain appliances need to be hard wired even though theyre less than 13 amps.

I can understand that ovens that draw more cannot be plugged in but thats for obvious reasons. Its not obvious why a device like an AC cant be plugged in just because its a fixed unit.
