One For Enthusiasts Of Old Cars

"Yer nicked sunshine!" :)
Wonder what they'll be looking at in another 40 years and saying "They were cheap then!"
Won't bother me I suspect!

Can't really think of anything being made now that I would want to hang onto for decades. Unfortunately, to me, modern cars are no more interesting than washing machines. Just efficient, but very uninteresting metal boxes that are here to do a job. Then be thrown away.

Wasn't there a statistic banded around a while back that 75% of all Land Rovers ever made are still on the road?

Possibly, they command stupid prices....even for scrap ones, which most are.

Lots of old cars seem to be fetching stupid money too. Was shocked to see even stuff like old Escorts, 'Tinas and Grannies now fetching prices in the thousands, when not long ago they were in the hundreds.

I suppose people get to a certain age and want to buy the cars that remind them of their youth, so 70s and 80s cars have suddenly come into their own. Even quite mundane stuff that was produced in high volumes.

Nice cars, but didn't seem long ago when a really tidy one was £1000, maximum. Seems like they were a good investment. Wonder what, if any, cars from today will go back up in price in 30 yrs time?

Now, if it was a MK1 in Roman Bronze, I could get to play Regan.

Knuckle draggers are putting the price up on early escorts and tinas......lets be honest MK1 and 2 escy's are utter ****e motors just like most of Fords 70's/80's gash. Cart springs and live axles. Loads of cars were better than them and I am actually quite glad the tattoo'd masses are paying well over the odds for them.....it means I can pay reasonable money for real performers.

The only ones I would have would be a MK1 Granny and a MK3 tina.....the rest are not worth it. I have had a long term plan for a V8 Granny and it will happen one day.....no one loves them and the prices are still reasonable.

Yes, I can see the appeal of early Escorts, etc for those who want to compete in them. Dead simple, easy to tune and affordable to add a lot of BHP. They do nothing for me.

I always had a weak spot for the Grannies, although for some reason I always seemed to end up with Carltons, Sennys and a Royale. Not so sure about no one liking the Granada, especially the Mk1. If you go shopping for a tidy one, you will need deep pockets.

This one caught my eye. It has had a 5.7 V8 dropped in.

That's a nice Granada and a 2 door, thought all the 2 doors were coupes? Not sure about the corners, with that power, but dead on on the straight. Surely a plot of land with it at that money? Isopon isn't that expensive

That's what I thought. I've only seen 2 door Grannies in coupe form. Maybe it was only for the LHD market, or poss, as you say, a few pounds of Isopon laid on with a trowel.

Two door saloons were euro market only. **** knows why as I think they would have flown off the shelves here. I don't like the coupes.....ugly things. Have considered doing an RHD conversion to a saloon but haven't checked it's viability.

That one is nice apart from the horrible wheels.

Agree. Never liked the MK1 coupe. Seems to look strange or unbalanced. The Mk1 2 door however, is a new one on me. Until I put the link up, I didn't know they existed.

I'm impressed.

Looks great in MK2 version too.

I'll lay down the challenge to see if anyone can find a MK3 in 2 door form.

If I was going to import an aussie motor it wouldn't be anything that nasty. More likely an XA or XB coupe.

Bloke in my local motor factors has a rough MK4 'tina two door....could be nice with some work but I doubt he will get much done to it......might offer him some money for it.

True. But then I'd choose an E49 or an AX9 but as I have to live in the real world (ie: I can't afford them) if I was to import it'd probably be a HJ Sandman PV or similar.

In case you can't tell I, I used to live in Perth WA !!

Give it the similar treatment to the XR6 that was only sold in S. Africa. 3.0 Essex and Weber, or the XR6 Interceptor has triple Webers.
