To anyone (and Screwfix and other sellers who should know better) who calls this accessory (with switch or not)

a "fused spur".

Would you please show me a picture of an "unfused spur"?

If you manage to invent something which might qualify please explain why you have never before called it an "unfused spur".

Although it's factually incorrect, I see nothing wrong with such a description. It is certainly THE name used by almost everybody.

As a matter of interest what would you call it?

Yes, exactly. I.e. what it is.

It is not a fused spur.

Although it's factually incorrect,
What else need be said?.

I see nothing wrong with such a description.
Apart from it being wrong. Very sensible.

It is certainly THE name used by almost everybody.
Still wrong.

As a matter of interest what would you call it?
I am surprised you need to ask?

So - what is an unfused spur, then?

What do you call the item in the picture?

I asked first -

but have you not read any of the posts where I have corrected people who call them "spurs"?

and have you not read the previous posts in this thread?

I'm not saying you're wrong.

I just wondered what you call them...

I’d personally be inclined to call the item in the picture a “fused connection Unit” or FCU.

My understanding is that as its name suggests it’s an accessory for providing a connection protected by a fuse.

I know what a spur is. It’s not the same as one of these.

EFLImpudance, I agree ten thousand percent with you.
I hate it when folk calls them spurs (fused or unfused) On yes it does wind me up.
A spur has another meaning and often a FCU or SFCU is used at that point and that, IMHO, is probably the reason it is often termed so badly.
It has got me so worked up just reading this thread that smoke is now bellowing out of my ears.

There is a list of other things that wind me up in similar fashion.
PIN number, TUC congress, Line v Live, plug socket come to mind too.

Ranks as bad as the way Americans pronounce things wrongly (Data, Iraq, Moscow, Aluminium etc etc etc) and get the date all front to back/downside up.

Look I am rambling, you stirred it up.

A spur is a spur and an FCU is an FCU, everybody who mixes them up then cease and desist immediately please.

PS - A friend of mine reckons he explained to someone that the cause of her noisy washing machine was because the flex had knots in it "Knotted flexes cause Lumpy Lectrik" he says , then takes the knots out (and slyly levels the washing machine) and hey presto!
