out side lights

I think it might be time to call an electrician.
It was time for that "about 3 years ago".

Of course there is part p to consider now :(
There may have been Part P to consider "about 3 years ago", as it's been in force for 3 years and 9 months...

The electricians here are concerned for your safety and are frightened by what you have. They are not giving you grief, for their own amusement.
Well said.

this is to steve and mogget
just for the record i,m a she not an he

Me also, apologies.

and by all means say what you need to say but say it without an attitude.i,ll put my hand up and addmitt i dont know what size the wire was e.t.c but the lights have worked fine for the last 3 yrs other then the builb dont last very long. so if u cant leave yr comments without having an attitude then dont leave them at all.

It's nothing to do with attitude. If the diagram you showed us is correct, then your outside light installation is plainly dangerous for a number of reasons. The fact that it has 'worked for the last three years' is no indication of safety. It appears on the news this morning that the fire at the cutty sark, was caused by a vacuum cleaner catching light. No doubt it had been 'working properly' for quite some time before it caught fire.

What concerns me the most is that had your bulbs not been blowing, you'd have never posted here, and would never have found out that your wiring was dangerous.

I stand by my advice to call an electrician, be honest about what you've wired up, and get it fixed so it's safe. Alternatively, it's not impossible, as a householder to learn what you need to know, but it takes a lot of study, not just a couple of posts on a forum. Also it's illegal to install your own outside lights unless you involve building control.

Thanks for the correction.
