Panorama - The Smart Meter mess

Consumers would be given incentives to take advantage of lower prices and avoid using electricity when costs go up in both scenarios.

They already are being offered those incentives, on Octopus, with it's a variety of tariffs. There are considerable costs to be saved, by being able to adjust your energy demand, to certain times, with little warning - even negative costs, where they pay you to use the surplus, or in my case free energy at certain times.

Quality answer lol.

4 million faulty ones!! What’s the cost on sorting that mess? Where will the money come from ? What happens if people get in debt ?

As I have repeated several times - the 4 million are the 4 million meters not fully working, the failures could be for a variety of reasons, but by far the most common, is them unable to communicate their readings, back to base. It doesn't mean the basics of the meter are not working, there will still be consumption figures, available to the customer - they just need to do what they have always done, report the readings to the supplier.

the failures could be for a variety of reasons,
Yeah that’s true, in your opinion. The faulty ones I’ve seen “A lot” have been stuck going back from on to ready. So loving the gas supply.

Not very helpful for people who actually want to use the gas they have paid for.

And someone has to pay my call-out charge too.

Cadent didnt go to the regulator to stop working on them and get permission due to ridiculous amount of call outs to them because they were not sending readings as that has nothing to do with them

Millions of households with smart meters face paying more for their electricity at the busiest times of day under plans by the energy watchdog.

Ofgem is consulting on introducing a “dynamic” energy price cap for households to meet the demand of net zero. The proposals come despite the Government insisting in 2018 that it was a “MYTH ” anyone would face higher energy bills because of the devices
All under a Conservative govt that you voted for.

They should employ fitters with half a clue, they are not renowned for their problem solving abilities.
