haha, are you being sarcastic? or do you see where he is coming from ? as per my last message, pipe's etc? cheers mate I will update when I get the quote.

No,, TBH it sounds like your plumbing is a right mess...

still get a couple more prices though!!

I think you need a gap of a metre between the cold tank and the hot water cylinder, if the cylinder is up close to the roof then maybe the cold tank is too close?

Dont quote me on it ;)

Hi all, got hte quote today so thought id just come on to see what you guys think, the quote is £1100!! now that sounds very expensive but hey what do I know!! what do you uys think? this is for tank, elements, and to re-jig some pipes???
Chhers

Hi mate, so do you think that is dear?? I really have no idea, I think they will replace the extra plastic tank too, the 1100 is plus VAT also, I know its dufficult as you havent seen the job , but what do you think?
Cheers mate

Impossible to tell on a forum..

If you get at least 2 more quotes it should give you a good idea

Hi all especially Nozspark!! just wondering if you can help with the wording of the quote as I now have it in written form, it reads like this -

As discussed the existing installation is poor quality and does not comply with the water/building regs. After discussion we regret that we are unable to replace as existing.
Weoffer the following -
Existing firtic cylinder , plastic water storage tank, shower pump and associated pipework removed.
Supply & install 1x range tribune slimline direct unvented cylinder in place, Mains cold water to cylinder and 2 immersion heaters wired.

So there it is, my question is as it sounds like they will remove the pump, will there be enough water pressure for the power shower?? ive never heard of these cylinders so dont know what they are capable off, as you know I live in a first floor flat so the pressure isnt great anyway! this is slightly complicated as the in laws are lending us the money and as such I cant really phone the plumber as they are funny at the best of times! anyway I wont get in to that!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!

It sounds like he's pricing up a pressurised HW cylinder.. they are a lot more expensive than a std or fortic cylinder (combined header tank), but they do give you hot water at mains pressure; so your hot and cold will be the same pressure!

If I were you I'd really get some more quotes, if the plumber is being funny now (before he gets the job) then what's he going to be like during and after??

I will deffo have to phone them them re the water pressure!! I deffo dont want to end up with a trickling power shower!! I think you misunderstood me mate, I meant the in-laws are funny as they like to take control as they are lending us the money sadly they are like that even though they like me know nothing about plumbing etc, If they knew id phoned them they would be funny with me if you know wat im saying! i googled the tank at they seem to be bout 600 quid but it doesent state on what size they will be putting in, will have to phone then tmoz re the pressure, can a pump be added to these systems??
Cheers

First off, the hot water will be at the same mains pressure as the cold water so if your cold is fine then you hot will be aswell.

and.. if the pressure isn't good enough, you will not be able to add a pump as you cannot pump mains pressure.

Oh yes you can! See G6.1 in the WRAS guide.

You need written approval from the water undertaking unless any pump or booster is incapable of drawing more than 0.2 litres per second.

That's 12 litres per minute, which is more than the capacity of a domestic shower.
