Is that cos everyones skint (surely not), or maybe because as people become more educated they see less need for "religion". Or perhaps it's just that people see this particular character as a bit of a nazi. What do you reckon.

And why should the taxpayer have to cough up for something that most see as an irrelevance, the catholic church are loaded.

I'm a left footer but I couldn't careless and I certainly don't think ANYONE but the vatican should be paying.

Vast majority of todays coverage is on Papal visit. Vast majority of British population could not care less, and rightly so. There is nothing that this man, in his wizards outfit will say or do will affect me one iota.
The news coverage is disproportionate to his importance to the British people.
There are lots of other more important things going on at home and abroad that will or may affect me/us. Thats what I want to be kept up to date on.
