Pope's visit, who cares?

Who wants to sit on a feckin cloud, playing a harp for the rest of eternity anyway. Sounds like hell to me.

Can you prove that that is what going to heaven means?

That said, given some of your posts, you will never find out. ;)

I think Kev's right in his thinking on England paying, since when have the scots ever put their hands in their own pockets.

I too was not happy about us spending 12 million on the 4 visit but they reckon it generated 13 million of spending in scotland alone today so over the 4 days it should generate far more spending..

I've heard their pretty good on soil pipes and back entry gullies as well.

time to renounce religion in my book (as per my previous thread - are the mods on holiday perchance?)

But what GOOD does that guy give this world?

Was watching the news last night and they had footage of of popeman in his popemobile riding through the parade and some woman holds up her baby to the pope and he pulls it inside the popemobile window for a quick blessing and a kiss...... now if there is one image that is gonna be captured..and maybe captioned, it is gonna be that one.

I'd like to know how they can physically calculate, by 9pm at night on the day he arrived, the amount of spending that the pope's visit has generated? Is that actually possible. Or is it more likely that they're telling us its generated £13million worth of additional spending - just to make us feel better?

If he wants to visit, that's up to him, but i totally agree that there is no way the taxpayer should be paying for it and yes, there are far more newsworthy events than this - it would have been interesting for the BBC to do a poll on their website on whether the nation wanted them to report on the pope's visit or not!?!? As a result i've not watched the news since Monday - what's going on in the world (other than an old man visiting an Island in Northern Europe)??

Andrew i dont know how they come to the figure. But i would imagine its to do with amount of ticket sales and how much money each individual spends , the amount of hotels booked by the worlds media paying top dollar etc etc.
Bit like how they project that the olympics is going to generate for Britian i mean london/england.

Had to laugh this morning BBC news on about Twickenham today saying" he is a Pope for the young people" ...
.Why should he be any different from his clergy

He attacked the "aggressive secularism" (practised mostly by catholics and atheists) in todays society comparing them to the Nazi's.
Perhaps a bit extreme and certainly hypocritical but has a point none the less.
The three great evils in todays society are the catholic church, islam and atheism imo.
Islam teaches an eye for an eye. Revenge in other words.
The catholic church forgives its followers today and allows the sins to be repeated the following day unrepentant.
Atheism has its roots with satan himself and offers no hope or moral teachings to the children of the world.
