There is probably no figures on how many dog owners lives have been made much better because they have the love and companionship of dog ownership nor of how many have been saved from something (as in a couple of posts above) by having a dog.
If there was I'm sure the figure would be way, way higher than the figure for dog bites.
Like anything, there are risks involved in dog ownership, it's the people that do not understand those risks and protect against them or train their dogs that generally lose out.
Going back to the title of this thread - the dog should never have been let out when opening the door, the posty defended himself against a little sh1ttypoo and the buggers can cause a nasty bite.
As much as I love dogs I do defend his quick actions.
