Doubtless solar panels and fake climate change is to blame rather than governments that treat energy as a matter of profit not policy.

Edited that for you.

And the current lot seem to be ignoring energy too because they seem to think drilling for oil and gas can be ended .......

It amounts to the same thing, but profit in the private sector always trumps the wider public interest unless governments intervene.

Centrica doubles Rough gas storage capacity and bolsters UK energy security

from 6 days to 12 days

Germany has storage for 96 days

we are lucky that we are able to store some gas in EU

What do the figures actually mean? Apparently, our total gas storage capacity is 12 days. And we are currently down to half that i.e. 6 days. And this is 25% lower than the same point last year. But presumably the gas supplies are constantly being topped up. How does it all fit together?

And when you read other outlets, the position isn't as bad

The issue appears to be actual storage of the gas, not the availability of it.

For some reason (previous government policies) we store less than many other European countries and rely on delivery more.

This is all very interesting. It seems the last government shut down the main gas storage facility for a period of five years from 2017 to 2022. And our gas storage capacity during those years was only three days!

The video embedded here is a good explanation of the issue with gas for Europe and the UK. Remember, we are part of the energy market with Europe still, and with Russian gas being stopped, that has put a squeeze on what we (UK & Europe) can use and store.

We have increased LNG imports (US & Qatar) but this hasn't compensated for the drop in Russian gas.

Norway, UK, and Netherlands are the other main supplies, and these are not big enough to replace this supply.

Decarbonisation (largely electrification and low carbon supplies) is the best option at this stage.

We squandered our gas thanks to Thatcher, when we could have gone nuclear.
