Maybe just removing the backstop issue would get her enough votes.

Whether the EU would agree is another thing.

It just goes to show how far politicians will go to save the party.......far beyond putting the country first.

The backstop (which Theresa previously agreed to but in now trying to go back on to appease Rice-Pudd's mob) is to protect the Republic of Ireland, and the borders of the EU.

The Republic of Ireland is a member of the EU.

The EU is committed to protecting the interests of its members.

The EU has always said that a backstop is necessary to protect the interests of its members, in the event that nothing better can be agreed.

This is no surprise to anybody.

The only person trying to change their mind and go back on their word is Theresa.

What I don't understand though us that given how quick and easy a new trade deal with the EU will be (as we were assured during the campaign that it would be) then why is anybody getting antsy about the backstop?

Surely we'll get quick and easy trade deal long before it would ever need to come into force?

Theresa May is expected to reject calls to forge a cross-party consensus on Brexit when she lays out her plan B to parliament on Monday, choosing instead to back new diplomatic efforts in Brussels to renegotiate the Irish backstop.

The prime minister held a conference call with her bitterly divided cabinet from the country retreat of Chequers on Sunday evening.

Cabinet sources said the consensus on the 90-minute call was to renew efforts to find acceptable changes to the backstop arrangement but that the conversation was light on specifics. One said there were “no actual solutions” proposed during the call.

“It is difficult to know – as ever – what she will do,” another said.

What she will not do is give in to you lot and offer another in/out vote!

Seems that we are knee-deep in things which she won't do.

Now and again she picks some of them up and puts them in the "things I will do" pile.
