No, but I was left with a big dent in my mum's old car after some drunken chav scum ran out of a pub into the road as I was reversing out of a parking space. Being a gimp he got up and booted the car. Perhaps I should have kept reversing instead ;)

I always thought that the onus of responsibility lay with the driver of the vehicle. It's like driving into the back of someone - it's your fault.

Any accident can have appalling consequences but at the end of the day, as a driver, you have to accept the responsibility of taking control of a 1 ton lump of metal and handling it in a responsible manner. If that means you drive round at 5mph past schools, then so be it. Children will always run out into the road unanounced. It's happened to me and all I could think was "Thank God I wasn't going 10mph faster."

Once you start blurring the line of responsibility you can end up in all sorts of difficulties.

Anyway, going back to Secure's original post, the thing that gets me angry is the continuing drive of the government to perpetuate the "compensation culture" in this country.

when i was at school i was taught to look left then right & don't cross from between parked cars(trying to find a street with no cars on would be easier than going to the moon in a bucket)kids now a days are too street wise so when they do get knocked over its allways the drivers fault

EXACTLY. That is what the Govt changes will encourage. Along with another HUGE increase in premiums.

I pay £704 for a group nine car. I have comp + business and I have 3 points but I also have a protected NCB. SK7 is a decent area to live, so why is it so much? Because of greedy solicitors.

Is that right?

It's the insurance companies ripping us off because we have no choice in the matter!

have just driven to work & quess what shot across the road in front of me like an exocet missile.A SQUIRREL. the same one that in the 70's was called tufty & was in a campaign to help children cross the road, they now use hedgehogs  whats the most common squished animal you see athe side off the road?could it be squirrel & hedgehog  and as for chickens crossing the road have never seen that happen never mind" WHY " DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD. ;)

Badgers and Pheasants in these parts, with the odd deer thrown in. OMGWHYD my old son.

Perhaps we should cull these creatures ... by hunting ... save the 'lampers' shooting children

Nearly ran over a geriatric squirrel? Wouldn't advertise that one, mate!

Must be 30+ now, the old man...

Bah! At 21 I paid £900 for a group five car, with no points on my licence, driveway overnight, nice area. I'm happy that it's "only" £450 now, with 2 years NCB. That £900 was severely shopped around, most companies wanted around £1200!

Still, it means when I can get a group 20 car insured for £900 I will think it is a bargain, and the wait will make it all the sweeter

They've either been reading your posts or heard of your reputation!!
