United Kingdom
A primary school teacher was paid £200,000 last year - that's about 50k more than the Prime Minister. Surely running a country is a bigger job than running an infant school? Wouldn't £50k be more like what a primary head should earn?

Quite a few people in Parlament earn more than the PM. You'd think the gaffer would be on more money :!:

Great savings could be made if they paid people on performance.

Never mind Public Wages ......... The wages of sin is Death

The Head is positioned on a scale according to many factors... size/location of the school, number of kids, any special units (e.g. autism etc), and of course the budget pot available... but i know for certain that your average Head in a medium sized (300 kids) school could be being paid £55k

But £200k is plain stupid.

Who is the fool - the payer or the recipient?

Also, you have to ask, why is the position worth a £200k salary?

He's running a primary school - not the country.

Why do you think running a primary school is a big deal? Surely an inner city comp would be more difficult?

Running any school is not an easy task.

I would not wish to be a head teacher for all the tea in China.

But you are correct in saying what you say with regards to comparing inner city comp's to primary schools.

However, i would still like to know why this post is so highly paid.

If I remember correctly it included things like bonuses, pension contributions, non taxable expenses etc. Added to this some governing body had just awarded them a 16% pay rise to bring them into line or something.

I'm sure joe can dig out a link. ;)
