Quiz.

You haven't answered the question.
Yes there is a widely used name for them which you could find quite easily. They were patented in1867, which has expired, but the name is still used.
It is maybe the name you use for them. There is no defined name for them.

I have worked in an aerospace company & we knew them as disc springs.

So you're asserting that something doesn't exist just because you and your one place didn't use it and you haven't heard of it - and couldn't be arsed to google it?
Sorry but that just will only ever make you look ignorant and arrogant.
It's not "my" name, but I've heard it used in a number of places.

Maybe they didn't use the name "Allen Key" either. Hex key wrench Pat'd in 1909.
Are you going to say only I recognize that Name as well?
Cotter pin?
Woodruff key?
Loads of tools...

It's a disc spring innit?

WHat's the name for the common metal spring which has infinite planes of symmetry?

(I can only think of one)

At the risk of nitpicking, how many planes of symmetry is infinite?

I can see that a two dimensional circle has infinite symmetry, I cannot think of a 3D shape other than a sphere that has infinite symmetry.

I suspect that you meant, infinite planes of symmetry in one plane.

I could be wrong though. I have only had 3 pints today... thus far....

infinite planes can all be through one axis. Anything you can turn on a lathe..

No, Meant what I said!

Just because something is "bounded" doesn't mean it can't be "infiite". Like the number of points on a line. That's getting into topology....

It's also Belleville washer.
Your response implies that if YOU don't know something, it's not true. Every day's a learning day.

Have you discovered yet that Belleville's patent application failed & history acknowledges that he didn't actually invent what the rest of us call a disc washer?

Perhaps not. You can cling to your belief that your Belleville washer is somehow different to what the real world of engineering univerassally calls a disc washer.

You asked a question. People who know better than you answered your question, shot you down in flames & yet your ego still makes you think you right?

Jeez. I don't know.

them Belville washers things are used on the steering rack ? steering assembly of the latest Ultima super car

there is a bloke building one on line ( nigel dean) who is doing videos on the caper

episode 16 ( latest) shows using them washers ;)

Yes I knew about the patent.
It is not MY Belleville washer - stop pathetically trying to make a Straw Man argument.
It's the same bloody item but it DOES have a Name associated. By the company who use the name, and several places I've worked.
It makes no difference whether you think it was valid or not.
The Belleville name is associated with that type of spring OK?
It was that Name which I asked for.
Your pathetic brainless objections only speak to your ego problem.

Perhaps I've worked in more industries than the ONE you quoted, or noticed and learned a bit more - shock horror.

People who haven't heard of the name, like you, know less than me on this, obviously.
What you know is obviously irrelevant because it's deficient.

What does it say about the man who won't accept that he simply didn't know the answer , which I remind you, someone else did.

Used widely, as in the WW2 Anti-tank mine in Wikipedia!

By arranging a stack, you can make a whole load of different spring properties. Like I said, differing rate springs too, so they're "soft" then go "harder".
