Radiator in hallway (no trv) not as hot

Hi

We are trying to optimise our older (1995 ideal classic) heat only system as the temps are dipping before getting a new system next year. Have noticed that the radiator in our hall way is not as hot as others around the house.
This is where the thermostat is located, so would really like to sort it
Theres no trv on it which seems to be a common thing for this location
I've bled it and no air, and the inlet pipe seems to be getting almost as hot as others on the system.

Any ideas what I should try next please?

You say it is near the room stat and has no TRV.

This is correct, and it is supposed to be the last one to get hot so that the CH is not turned off before the rest of the house is fully warm.

It has probably been adjusted by balancing. This is also correct.

You could rebalance it to get hotter, but this would result in other parts of the house being colder.
 
Yeah the logic makes sense. But yeah would definitely like to get it warmer as the whole house temp is controlled from this room
The fact that the inlet pipe feels warmer (when on) than the rest of the rad.. could that also be balancing related?
Happy to lower the upstairs spare room if it provides more heat to this room

No but I'm happy to lower the temp of the spare room if it means the hallway rad receives that extra heat
 
I'll keep it very simple. The hallway rad isnt as warm as all other rads in the house. We want to fix that

There is a valve, one on the flow side, one on the return. One, or other, or perhaps both, will be restricting the flow through the rad. If you want that radiator warmer, then it needs more flow through it. To achieve that, just try opening both valves a fraction. Closed is clockwise, open is anti-clockwise, as viewed from the end of the valve spindle.

Mark their positions, before you adjust them, so you can return them back, to as they were.

Not TRVs they are all manual valves around the house. Pretty sure all are at least 3/4 open. There are 2 without adjustable knobs - one of the lounge rads and this one in the hallway. Unless of course, the heads have been removed in the past..
It's just the hallway rad that isn't getting as warm as others and that's where the wall thermostat is located

It's the room temperature you are heating, not the radiator.

Quite - but it's the rad that heats up the room. The hallway is colder which is why Ive been looking into this

The left is the lockshield valve isnt it? adjusting that could mess with the balancing of the system. I may just try opening the inlet a but more with pliers
