Exactly. This also adds to my argument that they should try to be ultra professional when dealing with high profile cases like this one. The way that the newspaper article comes across (I know, I know  ) is that they were like kids in a candy shop with their new (unlicensed and unfullytrainedfor) taser "toys", and as such were far to keen to try them out. That is sadly one perception which will stick in some people's minds.

I've come to the conclusion that these posters who de-cry the police as a whole have never had need of their assistance in their entire life. They may also have been indoctrinated to these views by either their parents or peers

wrong.... ;)

Cops....... I mean pigs are like the government, they dont give a crap about anything other than themselves

Far as I am concerned Moat should have been shot as soon as they new were he was , shot on sight !! all this nonsense about a stand off because he was going to shoot himself who cares saved the tax payer a few quid !

Any one joining the Police force should be aware that the job might mean that you will come into confrontation with violent people on occasions , thats part of the job !! But this constant Hero nonsense that is put about the minute any of them get hurt / injured is mis-placed !

A WPC Evonne Fletcher( I think ) was shot years ago by some Libiyan diplomat , he opened the window & just shot her , sad as it was , but why was she touted as a Hero ! there are many un-sung heros that have knowingly given there lives to assist others & no one even knows there names ???

I think the heroism bit comes from signing up to do the job in the first place, knowing full well that you are likely to come into confrontation with violent people as a matter of course.

I think you're rather over-stating it there Daneski. IMO, there's absolutely nothing heroic about joining the Police or any other emergency service for that matter. For a lot of people it's just a job with a bit more security, reasonably good pay and quite a few 'perks'.
I think it's probably true to say that at least 90% of their time is spent on quite mundane, routine tasks and coming face-to-face with an armed criminal/lunatic is actually quite rare.
They're not exactly unarmed either are they? They have quite a few 'weapons' at their disposal.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Police but, like others, find it really annoying when the word hero is bandied about for no good reason. IMO, it demeans the actions of true heroes i.e. those who risk their lives to save others.
As sad as it is that the Policeman was blinded by Moat, he was actually just sitting in his patrol car at the time rather than doing anything 'heroic'.

In what way am I wrong?
If you can prove that my conclusion is wrong then tell me how.
