Hi, My vokero flowmatic rs20-80 has a pilot light. Lately I have noticed the fan does not run on idle. fires ok when water or c/h is required.phoned homeserve who provide boiler cover, he says fan should not run permanently and is not classed as breakdown. Is he right or should the fan operate constantly to take pilot fumes away?It laways seemed to operate permant, I could hear it first thing in morning. Any help much appreciated

The fan on this older combi should run on low speed when there is no demand for heat or hot water.Possible faults are low speed resistor open circuit or heating manifold flow switch faulty. This can be found just below the pump. Not hard to fix but is pro work as the front case has to be removed to check for correct fan voltage.

Joesoap, it would be prudent to get the boiler serviced as this will cure the problem.

If problem is not sorted now, you will start to get leaks and possible meltdown if there is no water in the boiler. Fan run at slow speed is a safety issue so get your big boots on and talk to service provider. If they are giving you a cold sholder, it is because they do not know the operational sequence of this boiler

Thanks guys, much appreciated, I guessed I was correct, they maintain my cover only covers breakdown resulting in loss of hot water or c/h, I claim it,s full boiler cover I have.I will try and push, but don,t expect much, just renewed contract. They renewed the fan just 2 years ago

Hi, you were spot on, it was the flow switch sticking, I put a bit wd40, on pin, worked it in and out, and it,s ok. the pin was not coming far enough out to activate the slow speed on the fan.switch.Thanks again to you all.
