Removal of BT Cable from lounge to bedroom

before disappearing in the upstairs window sill (where it then ends!!).
So can you see it internally if so is it connected to anything? but go back to the nte and look behind the bt plate bet you've got a bit of ug cable crimped to a bit of Jumper wire (yellow blue Blue yellow) usually used in cabinets which then terminates under the screw terminals A and B (some times the ug feed is a bit short after repeated termination and this is the way around it)
If you see any blue/ orange/ green/ brown wires in there are they terminated if not see if you can pull the grey wire out from the window sill.

What kind of cable have you used for the extension,it looks screened to me ?.This can cause noise problems if its not earthed instead of screening the cable i think it has the opposite effect .

Indeed. Screened cable if unearthed is, has been pointed out, pointless. Companies like ADSl Nation sell it because Joe Public thinks anything with a silver screen in it is the best you can get. Look at a CAT6 STP system & you will notive EVERYTHING is shielded & earthed, for telecoms/ADSL there is nothing wrong with CW1308 cable, if you really wanted to then use CAT5e but anything else is completely pointless.

Many thanks again.

Have removed two retaining screws ro reveal the A&B terminals as predicted (piccies now added to my album).

As there's no other wires is this convincing evidence that the other grey cable can be removed with total safety.

Longshanks

Hi again

Thought this was now a "no brainer" as the Yanks say. Don't the foties prove that it's just the main cable conencted and nowt else.

Cheers

Pull the fecking cable out ffs beware though with cutters as the cable carries a massive 50v dc Electrical insulating Gloves to EN60903 should be worn at least three days prior to any work with Pink wellington boots also to EN60903, this is to alleviate any possible electrostatic discharge back up the line and blowing up the Exchange, which BT get a bit annoyed about.

Well, that lot's unnecessary, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

I admit this thread has gone on and on a bit but the guy does not know so he asks, even gone to the trouble of supplying photographs.

Dear oh Dear what an over reaction.

I took an enormous risk by cutting the cable and got my eyebrows singed.

Problem is that the whole street is now off the network and BT Senior Management are asking searching questions about the competence of DIYnot forum.

You will get sent to prison too as it's illegal to tamper with a BT cable(not).
