ok well thanks folks, so to close the debate.....
Resoldering worked!
followed advice cleaned up really well, lots of flux, fed in fine
system filled, running hot and perfect...
Based on the fact that it was removing other pipes that caused the leak i reckoned the less movement on the pipes the better so decided to give it a go resoldering. Had to run over a couple of times to get it to take all the way but got there in the end.
If it had been a better location yes, i'd have refitted the whole fitting. (That's the advice I would give myself probably..)
Although I'm a newbie to solder I'm an experienced gas welder so some of that transfers a bit I guess, helps with the feel of it.
