we have a retaining wall that is in poor condition and leaning, it is about 70 years old so not done too bad.
I'm looking for advice on what to do with it, it is 0.9 metre high and 6.3 metres long and holding back the upper level of garden. I was thinking of building a new wall 1 metre in front and then demolishing the old or could I get away with demolishing the old wall and re-using the footings. Ideally I am looking for the cheapest way to do it as there will be a summer house in front of it so it does not need to be overly pretty.
Any advice on materials, I was thinking of using dense concrete blocks laid flat.
Any other ideas appreciated

For longevity blocks will be the king unless the budget can stretch to RC but they won't look all that great. Or blockwork with a brick facing. There are cheaper alternatives but they won't last as long as blockwork. Consider gabions, they last pretty well and (can) look nice.
