It's great to see that there is widespread approval for reducing deaths and severe illness by offering the RSV vaccinations to pregnant women and the over 75's

If results are as expected, I hope that the age limits will be extended next year to widen protection.

This is a disease that, until this year, has not received much attention because it is widespread, and there is no effective treatment or cure, so not much you could do about it.

Prevention will save lives and money.

In UK, and many other countries, the RSV vaccine has been offered to pregnant women, to protect their newborn infants, as well as to older people.

In England, around 20 to 30 babies die of RSV in a typical year.

I have not yet seen UK figures for the results, but in nearby Ireland, the effects have already been terrific. This is an Irish report.

A new RSV immunisation programme has significantly reduced infections, serious illness and hospitalisations amongst babies born in Ireland since September.
In relation to babies born since September 1, when the programme started, 41 cases of RSV were reported compared to 656 cases in the same period last year
A total of 24 babies were hospitalised compared to 413 cases at this point in 2023. Just five babies needed treatment in ICU for RSV infection, significantly down on the 64 babies needing ICU care in the same period last year."

Let us hope that UK does equally well.
In England, about 100,000 pregnant women have received the vaccine since 1 September. I do not have the figures for other nations.

By my estimate, about half the English seniors aged between 75 and 79 received the vaccine.
Which I do not think is enough. I hope we will do better before next winter.

Which are you thinking of and why do you think they don't have any therapeutic benefit?

It's easy to say (some) but not all, but I doubt that you can name many, (if any).

Maybe if the socialist Basterds in Government had not stolen their WFA they would be heating their homes better and able to avoid.

A lot of farmers came down with it after the autumn budget. AandE’s seem extremely busy, and anecdotally people have been as poorly as they were with covid.

Theres nothing socialist about asking people who can afford to pay, to do so.
